Mr. SHAJAHAN, aged 42yr is a bangladesh resident, working in dubai for the past 4 years. He had been diagnosed with a small tumour( 1.5cm) in the left kidney 2 years back. He had been advised conservative management for the past 2 years for the renal tumour and was advised check up every year at various hospitals. In 2 years the tumour had grown to nearly 3 cm in size!!!.He was advised the usual treatment of complete removal of the left kidney for this small tumour at many hospitals. He was very worried on hearing that. Finally he presented to the urology deparment at VPS lakeshore for expert opinion and the exclusive treatment of "3 D Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy" which is the latest in treatment of kidney tumours. In this procedure the tumour and a 0.5 cm margin of the good kidney is removed laparoscopically achieving complete tumour clearance. Rest of the kidney is retained and it functions normally. The patient can lead a normal life after that. The patient recovered well and was discharged on the 4 th day. This procedure can be extended to patients with renal insufficiency so that the functioning kidney can be retained and prevent future renal failure as well as complete tumour clearance. The Team of doctors including Dr George P Abraham(senior urologist and Laparoscopic surgeon) and Dr Datson George P(urologist) , Dr Mohan Mathew(HOD anesthesia & chief of staff) Performed the surgey. Keyhole surgery gives an early recovery and less post-operative scar.
